I have this same problem on a new MacBook Air running OS X 10.9.4. Wifi says it is connected and the diagnostics show that it is working fine but the status indicator drop down says it is 'Looking for Networks' every 5 seconds. Trying to work remotely is a nightmare since I was constantly being tossed out. Jul 23, 2016 Here are the details of my macbook and router: 1. 2011 Macbook Air with OS X El Capitan v 10.11.6 2. Router: Dlink model DIR 600M I have tried the below options but nothing worked: a. Formatting the system b. Upgrading from Yosemite to El Capitan c. Changing the wifi router from Linksys to Dlink d.
I had 'Yosemite' OS installed on my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) and the wi-fi was working fine. Then I updated it to 'El Capitan 10.11.1' and getting wi-fi issue as it was connecting and disconnecting automatically. So I read release note of 'El Capitan 10.11.2' that they have fixed the wi-fi issues in their new update and so I again updated my OS to 10.11.2 but no use. Now I am not able connect my macbook pro to wi-fi and it's telling that 'Wi-fi : No hardware installed'. Please help if anyone knows about it. Thank you in advance.

Before you get started, you are going to need to know a couple of things. All private Wi-Fi networks will have a name (SSID), and most will be password protected.
Public Wi-Fi networks, like the ones used at coffee shops and hotels, typically have a login screen you need to go through first. That might just require agreeing to the terms of service, entering a password, and paying a fee.
Either way, make sure you know the name of the network you want to connect to, and any login information you may need before you start.
